My first shelves. It’s typical of me that they wouldn’t be simple, ordinary, flat, level, shelves. I simply like to challenge myself and learn a lot in the process. The outcome was praised, that was nice. All my feedback was positive, job done and the customer was happy. Although I’d like to create them again because they could be a little better.
The challenge of securing the shelves at the same angle was possibly made harder by my basic approach. I’ve imaged using a shaped piece of wood with a sloped side to hold each shelve into place while I screw them to the front leg.
Even if I had done this I’d still have an issue with uniformity. The front leg was planned to fix close to the front of all shelves. It meant the shelve sizes had to be set for that outcome and I think I did well with that. However the sizes were decided and shelves built before the frame (including legs). I didn’t foresee a more accurate size for each shelf. I stuck to screwing into the bottom of each shelf for better support but on looking at the image. The very top shelf could have been secured differently, allowing an angle that closer matches the other shelves.
The completed shelf was good for the purpose of displaying our foodbank offerings. The chosen design is obvious when seeing it stocked. Sometimes it’s fruit and vegetables which roll forward, has an inviting feel to it.
